Meet Larry, a runner since high school who never imagined running 26.2 miles…that was until a few of him family & friends who had completed a marathon said it was a “life changing experience”. He heard about the SF Marathon Training program aka. Run365, that takes runners from a 5k to being marathon ready in 22 weeks. Larry went for it, and finished his first marathon two years ago! Without a doubt Larry believes that finishing a marathon, through the intensity of training to the challenge of race day, is truly one of his greatest journeys and personal accomplishments ever! Since then, he has been inspired to help others who want to do the same. As a recent USATF & RRCA Run Coach, Larry is a dedicated coaching trainer helping to motivate other beginning marathon runners. He is registered for the 2015 California International Marathon which will be his 7th Full Marathon overall! Photo by Mark Kuroda
Q: What is your favorite post run treat?
A: After a long run I’ll eat ANYTHING! Send me over to the nearest brunch buffet! 🙂
Q: What is the most motivational song on your playlist?
A: I use to dee-jay some years ago and know all too well that music sets the mood and tempo. Since running is something I find so freeing, I like keeping the energy flowing so I enjoy playing electronic music tracks from Calvin Harris, David Guetta, & Tiesto just to name a few.
Q: What was the last run you did?
A: 2015 Nike Woman’s Half Marathon, and yes guys can run it too! 🙂
Q: Hardest run you’ve ever done?
A: The 2014 North Face Endurance Challenge Marathon was by far the hardest. It’s a trail race with 4500ft elevation gain, but because of the rainfall the day before – the course was absolutely muddy making the term “slippery slope” an understatement!
Q: What is the BEST run experience you can remember?
A: That’s a hard one! I’ve had so many AMAZING run experiences that I can’t just point to one. I can say every time I can get out there on the road or trails, it’s always a new adventure! Sometimes it’s the only way to lose yourself; to take those moments and just appreciate the spirit of life. But, more often my runs are shared with others in the community where I am always so inspired by people with a story who truly enjoy getting out there with a great cause and purpose.
Q: What is your biggest struggle with running to date?
A: Injury prevention. At the end of 2014, I was struggling with knee and hip injuries. I had X-rays and an MRI done which found stresses and impingement aggravated by excessive running. Though I had to cut back on my running to heal, it gave me the opportunity to find alternative fitness training. Thank you Cycle, Core40, and Barry’s Boot camp!
Q: What is your proudest run moment?
A: The proudest moments are what inspires me to keep training. Like many, health & fitness from running continue to inspire me; but what inspires me just as much is being able to inspire others who want to make a healthy lifestyle change through running. “The Body Achieves what the Mind Believes.”
Thanks for sharing Larry! Cheers to many more miles of running strong!
Incorporating different movements and exercises into your running like Larry mentioned, is key to injury prevention. The 30 Day Challenge provides tools to running healthy, running faster, and running as far as you want for as many years as you want. It includes a LOT of work (we’re not gonna lie), but athletes who follow our simple video progressions, mobility assessments, strength exercises, and run workouts see pretty crazy results.
But fair warning: we want MOTIVATED runners only!
